The ASICS GEL-NYC debuted in 2023 as a collaborative creation, partly conceived by Angelo Baque of AWAKE. While its initial launch was imbued with streetwear appeal to capture attention, the silhouette has since established itself as a versatile addition to the ASICS lineup.
Positioned as a more rugged counterpart to tech-focused running models like the GEL-Kayano 14 and GT-2160, the GEL-NYC expands the scope of ASICS' ongoing sneaker resurgence. With its name, a nod to New York City and its collaborative origins rooted in urban influence, it's fitting that the latest iteration, titled "Gravel," draws inspiration from the city's industrial landscapes.
THE MATERIALS
Upper
Suede : Leather cut from the back, leaving the fibers visible on the surface. Suede is less susceptible to damage than nubuck.
Fabric : The fabric upper of sneakers is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable, ideal for everyday wear and sports. It ensures air circulation, keeps feet cool, and adapts to their shape. It's often complemented by synthetic or rubber accents for durability and support.
